REDDING. Last night, at 12:30 am, witnesses heard the high pitched sound of a motorcycle winding through its gears as it traversed up Placer Street come to a sudden stop. The motorcycle had hit two parked cars just west of Willis St. in downtown Redding. The 30 year-old driver was killed instantly.

RED BLUFF, TEHAMA COUNTY. Last week three motorcycle accidents occurred in Tehama County, leaving one dead. On Saturday, June 14th a motorcycle crashed in the rural, mountaneous area of State Route 32 just east of Elam Rest Area. It was reported that a 61 year-old rider from Willows leaned hard into a left descending curve and experienced a wobble. The rider lost control, went off an embankment and hit two trees. He died at the scene.

Later that Saturday, a 17 year-old woman lost control of her motorcycle while entering a curve on State Route 32 marked for 30 mph at a reported speed of 50-55. The motorcycle traveled into the opposing lane before losing control and skirting up a dirt hillside before flipping. The rider was taken to Enloe Medical Center with numerous contusions.

On Sunday morning, June 15, another motorcylce crash took place on State Route 32 at mile marker 8.5. This time a 59 year-old rider from Yankee Hill is reported to have crossed over double yellow lines while attempting to pass a vehicle. Upon completeing the pass, the rider encountered a hard left curve and while leaning into the curve, caught a foot peg. This caused the motorcycle to dump. The bike and rider separated with the bike striking a tree. The rider was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with major injuries.

REMINDER: This is the season that a great many riders enjoy the picturesque mountaneous roads of Northern California. Automobile, truck and RV operators must be vigilent to make sure that motorcycles are watched for and properly yielded to on our highways. Motorcyclist must also remain vigilent and take care for their own safety.
