The Red Bluff Daily News reported today that Tehama County Undersheriff Dennis Garton was seriously injured Friday while riding his 1991 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle on Interstate 80 near Winnemucca, Nevada. According to the paper the motorcycle accident occurred when an air stem valve on the rear tire of his bike suddenly failed, causing the tire to deflate. This lead to a loss of control and Undersheriff Garton was thrown from his bike, suffering injuries to his back, neck, hands, ribs, ankle and more.

Undersheriff Garton is expected to be released from Renown Hospital in Reno today. The Undersheriff is known to be a very experienced motorcycle rider who is meticulous in the care and maintenance of his bike. The cause of the air stem failure is under investigation.

It is reported that the Undersheriff expects to return to his job when he heals from his injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery.
